Why You Should Use WordPress for Your Site

There’s never been a better time to start your website – with all the platform options, a plethora of plugins, and guides to help you every step of the way. While it’s more accessible than ever, all those options have made the marketplace a little overwhelming as to what you should choose! While we won’t go over all the options here, we’ll talk about why we love WordPress and why it may be a great fit for you.

WordPress.org VS WordPress.com

Before we start, we’d like to briefly mention the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. What’s the difference? WordPress.org is an open-source (that’s a fancy word for free-to-use and distribute) software. This means you can download WordPress.org for free and host it anywhere. On the contrary, WordPress.com is a paid service (there is a limited free tier) that manages and hosts your website, similar to Wix or Squarespace. Because WordPress.com manages your website, you do not have complete ownership of the website. If WordPress.org is like owning your home then WordPress.com is like renting an apartment.

Currently, WordPress.com has too many limitations for us to recommend. Going forward when we refer to “WordPress” we will be referring to WordPress.org.

Now with that out of the way, here are a few reasons why you should use WordPress for your website.

Always Free to Use and Complete Ownership

As previously mentioned, WordPress is open source and is free to use, modify, and redistribute. What that ultimately means is that the possibilities of what you’re able to achieve with WordPress are only limited by your creativity and ambition. With very little technical know-how it’s possible to create a feature-rich application for the best price – free. The cherry on top is that the content you create with WordPress belongs solely to you.

Large Ecosystem and Community

One of the best aspects of WordPress is the ability to easily customize and add features to your website through plugins and themes. Plugins are a collection of code that extends the core features of WordPress. You might need a plugin for enhanced security, analytics to measure website traffic, or to enable eCommerce. There is a plugin for just about anything you might ever want or need.

Themes change the look and feel of your website. There are thousands of themes to select from that are built to cater to your specific type of website. The only hard part is deciding which theme you like best.

If you’re in the market for a new theme, check out our theme shop. We specialize in creating beautiful layouts that are fast, easy to use, and highly customizable.

You may think that you may have to be tech-savvy to be able to install plugins and themes but it couldn’t be more simple than a few clicks. If you happen to get stuck, you can have peace of mind knowing that there is a huge community of WordPress experts who mostly like to have a solution to your problem.

You Can Host Anywhere

With WordPress, you can host it anywhere you’d like, unlike closed systems like SquareSpace, Wix, or the aforementioned WordPress.com. The freedom of choice to host anywhere allows you to shop for the best price, quality, and service. As of writing this, it’s very possible to get fast WordPress hosting for prices as low as $5/month. That’s capitalism that we can get behind!

These are just a few reasons why we love and personally use WordPress, but there’s a myriad of other benefits not mentioned here. Regardless of what type of website you’re hoping to create, you can’t go wrong taking the first step with WordPress.
